Nebraska Radio History Archive Presentation: The history of Palttsmouth's own radio station is scarce. KOTD signed on the air in 1970 at 1000khz, with 250 watts of power. Records show the owners as "Warga Broadcasting" as far back as 1980. In 1990 KOTD was awarded a construction permit for KOTD-FM at 106.9 FM (It took Three years to get that station on the air) In 1994 -- shortly after their FM station went on the air -- KOTD AM was allowed to upgrade. They moved to 1020khz with 1000 watts of power. A Nostalgia format was popular enough for the station to show up in the Omaha ratings. In January 2001 Waitt Radio added KOTD to their Omaha group, renamed the station KKSC to serve Sarpy County with an agricultural format and built studios in Bellevue. Immediately Waitt studied the possiblities of updgrading the signal to better serve the Omaha area. In April of 2002, KKSC began program test authority for their new 50,000 watt signal on a directional tower array located near Glenwood, IA. Since KKSC was on a "Clear Channel" allocation they had to reduce power to 1,400 watts at night, so they would not interfere with 1020 KDKA in Pittsburg, PA. KKSC didn't last. In April 2003 KOIL Country 1020 went on the air adopting legendary call letters which had been parked at 1080 (Waitt's Radio Disney station). KOIL joined their sister stations in Omaha at 50th & Capitol.
